What To Order When Dieting On The Go

By Isabella Trelles on April 19, 2019

Grabbing healthy food on the run is incredibly difficult due to the fact that food from easy access and quick service restaurants are usually very processed and high in calories. I find it very hard to find healthy food when you’re in a rush and all you need something that is quick and easy. Most of the time, people just resort to eating a cheeseburger or some french fries, but this could ruin your diet. I have found that there are ways to work around this issue and that it is possible to eat healthy anywhere you go if you just do a little research and pick the right things. You can be pleasantly surprised by some of the healthy food you can find! Below I’ve listed some of my fast-food favorite finds.

Chick- Fil- A

  • Grilled Chicken Cool Wrap- this is probably one of my favorite items to order from here! The wrap is whole wheat and it’s packed with vegetables and sliced chicken, making it a refreshing meal when you’re on the run.
  • Grilled Nuggets- These are a great alternative to the regular fried nuggets! They’re so filling and they taste great with any of your favorite dipping sauces!
  • Superfood Side- This side salad is packed with nutrients and is perfect for people that are very health conscious. This salad contains kale, broccolini, and dried cherries, it’s a great substitute for French Fries!

McDonald’s

  • Fruit N Yogurt Parfait- Instead of getting a hearty breakfast sandwich you can just stick to one of these! – Not to mention the yogurt is a great source of protein.
  • Kiddie Cone- If you can’t shake your sweet tooth, then this is the item for you! These soft serve cones are only 45 calories and are one of my guilty pleasures.
  • Southwest Grilled Chicken Salad- This is definitely a great option if you want to try to eat as clean as you can here. It contains healthy, filling ingredients like beans, corn, and peppers!

 Starbucks

  • Sous Vide Egg Bites: White and Red Pepper- These might be my favorite fast food meal, they are small egg white breakfast cups containing fresh peppers. These are amazing because they work as breakfast or just a quick snack.
  • Thai-Style Peanut Chicken Wrap- This is a great lunch option! Its incredibly filling and even comes with fruit on the side.
  • Any coffee on the menu but substitute whole milk for almond milk- This is free of charge at Starbucks and cuts the calories in half! For example, you can get a Grande Flat White with almond milk and it only comes out to 100 calories!

Subway

  • Whole Wheat Sandwich- You can opt for a healthier sandwich by choosing whole wheat bread, turkey breast, and other veggies like lettuce and tomato.
  • Tuna Salad- Surprisingly, their tuna salads are amazing here and so refreshing!
  • Apple Slices- There are more options than just getting the chips here! Instead, you can get apple slices as your side dish.

Jimmy Johns

  • The Unwich- Did you know that you can get any sandwich at Jimmy Johns without bread?! You can and it’s amazing, instead of using bread, they simply wrap the sandwich in lettuce! It’s a great substitute when you’re having a Jimmy Johns craving.
  • Jumbo Kosher Dill Pickle- Instead of getting chips on the side of your unwich, you can opt for a 20 calorie pickle.

As you can see, healthy options are available at fast food restaurants, you just have to know what to order and where to go! It’s just always important to check the nutrition facts before you order anything because sometimes a salad can be even more calories than the chicken sandwich you actually want.
